Key Lime Sailing Club - Whoa!
Whoa! What did we get ourselves into? This place looks like an abandoned trailer park. I hope a murderer in a clown mask doesn’t jump out and try to kill us. That was our first impression of the Key Lime Sailing Club. Fortunately first impressions can be wrong. We were greeted by a lovely person who was very helpful in getting us registered and showed us to our cabin. It is an eclectic layout with a double bed raised up on two steps and a single bed in a hallway and a pullout sofa. There is a combination sink and two burner stove and a mini fridge. At first it seemed like camping but it is a little more comfortable than that. We unloaded the car of all our stuff into the cabin and headed to the beach. At this moment the genius of our decision became clear. A short walk to the gulf revealed a paradise. There were docks with sailboats tied up. The beach was white sand with crystal clear water and the toys were everywhere. There was a sunfish sailboat, a catamaran, four Catalina 22s, many kayaks, canoes, paddle boards and beach toys. Everything is included with the cabin rental. My grandson Jackson could not wait to get to the beach. His first stop was the tire swing. “Life is just a tire swing.” But then he saw two other kids ages 5 and 6 playing on the beach. Instant friendship. The 6 year old girl was having her birthday party in the tiki hut on the beach and Jack and the other boy were invited. After the party Jack paddled around in a kayak and on a paddle board. In between he swam and then snorkeled in the crystal clear water.,
This sunfish is just one of many boats you can use.
Let’s go sailing on this catamaran.
Jack found his favorite beach toy.
We enjoyed our time on the beach and headed back to our cabin to make dinner. I fired up the grill and cooked some burgers. We said our thankfulls for our safe travels and wonderful time at the resort. Tomorrow we will meet with the dock master and get our boat assignment. Each cabin has a Catalina 22 sailboat included with our rental. We will find out where we can sail within the Everglades National Park for the next two days.
